Instructions for Hosts using the Forum

The WWOOF Office registers all new Hosts and puts their WWOOF Book entry with the Hosts Contact details into their signature which appears below any topics or replies.

To sign in, go to the WWOOF Forum, fill in the required details, your Host Number is your user name and your password is case sensitive (if you select Remember me you should not need to log in again) click Sign in. This will take you straight to the Forums, with the Host advertisements at the top of the Forums.

At the top Right of every page there is a Search box where you can search Members (Note: to find WWOOFer # i13/12345 you search for 12345), Forums and Help Files; you can also do an advanced search to search a specific forum. Searches will also search the signatures and will give a list of Hosts who mention goats, for example.

On the top right of the screen is an envelope symbol, which takes you to your messages, the next symbol takes you to any notifications, then it will have your Username, which is your Host Number with an arrow next to it, this arrow takes you to your own profile, content, friends, personal messenger, gallery and settings.

You can send a message to Hosts or other WWOOFers by hovering over their user name (WWOOF membership number) and selecting send message, or you can phone or e-mail them if they put their contact details in their post or profile. If you send a message, they will get an e-mail telling them they have a message and an alert next time they log in to the forum.

Only Hosts can start Topics in this Forum. To post an entry in the Host Advertisements: WWOOFers needed urgently! forum, find your own state and click on, for example, Queensland (QLD) Go to the top, right hand side of the box with all of the Host entries, and click the Start New topic button.

This takes you to the page where you Post in your Topic. Fill in details as required. Put in a Topic title and up to 10 tags, tags are searchable so are a good way for WWOOFers to find your topic, suggested tags would be things like: visa, sheep, winery, cattle, horses, English,2nd WHVisa signed etc. Then put your topic in the box below the Tags. You can save your favourite topic wording in a document on your computer and paste it in from that document each time you put up a new topic to save time.

Your signature will appear at the bottom of your topic after you post it, with your WWOOF Book entry and contact details.

Below the box where you have put your topic you can browse your computer for a photo or file to attach and click Attach this File. Once your topic is loaded, your file/s and photo/s will appear as a link which will enlarge when clicked.

On the Right hand side of the screen, under Post Options are 3 boxes which can all be ticked: • Enable emoticons to use smiley faces • Enable signature so WWOOFers can see your Host entry from the WWOOF Book and all of your contact details. • Follow this topic to get an email when there is a reply to your post. (If you forget to tick this, once you have posted the topic there is a Follow this Topic button on the top right that you can click instead)

Once you are happy with the content of your topic, click Preview Post to see what it will look like, then continue editing until you are happy with it then Post New Topic

When you find your WWOOFer/s, it is a good idea to delete your topic so that no-one else can reply to it. To do this, go to your topic, at the bottom of the screen below your topic, click on Topic Moderation select delete, then click OK. Only you or WWOOF can delete your entry.

At the bottom of the Hosts looking for WWOOFers Forum is the 2nd Working Holiday Visa Forum. Hosts and WWOOFers can advertise here. It is vital that Hosts understand their obligations for signing this Visa Extension BEFORE they advertise in this forum. Pinned to the top of the Forum are the latest Rules and links to DIAC's website

This Forum is for WWOOFers to tell hosts about themselves and where they are travelling, you can reply to these entries on the Forum or contact the WWOOFers direct if they include their contact details.

Talk about your WWOOF experiences and recommend your best WWOOFers to other WWOOF Hosts in the Sharing WWOOFing Experiences Forum. Look here for WWOOFers who have been recommended by other Hosts.

This is a Forum that only WWOOF Hosts have access to, it is called Infoshare for WWOOF Hosts only and is intended for private discussion between WWOOF Hosts. WWOOF Hosts will be able to use this section once they have logged in. It can be found on the main page, below the forum for Ads for Travelling Companions. This Forum will not be visible to WWOOFers, please do not allow your WWOOFers to use the Forum with your login, they must log in as themselves using their WWOOFer number.

Use this Forum to share information with other Hosts about WWOOFers, how to handle difficult and uncomfortable situations and brainstorming about more effective hosting. Also use it to share your positive experiences, best WWOOFer stories as well as funny WWOOF experiences that you have had.

Add an album to the Gallery and upload photos of your property to give WWOOFers a taste of the great things to come when they arrive at your property. Include some photos of your WWOOFers working, playing, eating etc perhaps even include photos of your WWOOFer accommodation. Once you have added an album it will be available on the main Gallery tab as well as on your Profile.

To add an album, click on the Gallery Tab at the top of any page (next to the Forum Tab) you will see all of the recent albums here. Click the black Upload button at the top right of the page. On the Upload screen, click the Create New Album button (later on you can add more photos to this album by clicking the Select Album button instead) Give your album a name and a description, it will automatically have your Host number as it will be created by you.

Hosts can add photos and information about their interests etc to their own profile, by clicking on their user name at the top right of the page and selecting My Profile.

Click the black Edit my Profile button, at top right, and you can edit your Personal Profile, signature, or upload a personal photo, which could be a photo of your property if you prefer.

Click the Edit my About Me Page This is a great place to tell WWOOFers all about yourself, your property and the type of accommodation you are offering. You can also tell WWOOFers about the types of work you are wanting them to do, the food they can expect and any special things you want to tell them.

IMPORTANT The WWOOF Office will usually add your WWOOF Book entry to your Signature & About Me Page for you. This is not connected to the WWOOF Book, so if you want your WWOOF Book entry updated you MUST notify the WWOOF Office. Altering your signature or About Me page will not alter your WWOOF Book entry and the WWOOF Office will not be notified that you have altered it.

Add a Photo

There are 3 ways to add profile photo.

1. Click choose file, find the picture you want on your own computer and select it, (it is better if it is a small size, or a thumbnail size), then click "Done".

2. Use a photo that is already on a website (such as the photos in your Gallery), to do this, go to the website, right click on the photo you want to use, select copy image URL or Properties, then copy the Address (URL) of the photo, for example: http://forum.wwoof.com.au/index.php?/gallery/image/152/ Paste this into the URL box then click Import then Done.

3. Use Gravatar (if you have a Gravatar account)

To put a photo in your signature or About Me page, it must be a photo from a website. Copy URL (see 2 above) click the image icon in the Edit signature box or Edit my About Me Page box and paste the URL into the Image Properties box, click Done.

Click the Email and Password tab to change your email or password, please also advise the WWOOF Office if you change your e-mail so we can update the WWOOF Book and our database, these ARE NOT connected to the Forum.

Be aware that not all WWOOFers register to use the Forum, so they may be a registered WWOOF Member but you may not be able to find them on the Forum. Many WWOOFers and Hosts who use the Forum do not set up a profile.

To search for a WWOOFer, search for their member number in the search box at the top of any page (make sure you select "members" for your search) using the numbers after the forward slash. i.e to find WWOOFer # i13/12345 you search for 12345

If you wish to do a more detailed search, click the cog symbol to the right of the search box to open the advanced search menu.

For a very detailed member search, select the members tab at the top left of the page and click the black More Search Options button. Here there are options to search for a member number that begins with or contains numbers or letters (ie begins with NA, contains 1234 etc) The signature field can also be searched, for things such as goats, cheese, sheep, herbs etc, enabling WWOOFers to look for a Host in a specific region or state with something in their Host entry that reflects their interest. Hosts can also search for other Hosts with similar interests in their region or elsewhere.

We encourage both Hosts and WWOOFers to leave comments in the Profile Feed for each other as well as a star rating. If you prefer to approve any comments on your Profile Feed before they go live on the forum, you can go into My Settings look for Comments and Visitors where you can change the setting to Allow me to approve comments before they are displayed on my Profile. If you would like to get an email when someone comments on your Profile Feed you can set this up in My Settings for Notification Options for Profiles and Friends, tick the e-mail box next to Notify me of comments made on my Profile Feed.

To leave feedback for a WWOOFer

To leave feedback about a WWOOFer, search for their member number in the search box at the top of any page (see above for details) then go to their profile, where you can select from one to 5 stars to rate them and click on Profile Feed where you can leave a comment about their visit.

This is a great way to let your WWOOFers know you enjoyed their visit and to give them a reference for their next Hosts to read. You can also ask your WWOOFers to leave feedback about their visit on your Profile Feed. If someone leaves a comment on your Profile Feed you will get a notification, a red flag will pop up at the top of the Forum page to the left of your user name. You will be able to respond to the comments and will have the option to lock the comments to your profile or delete them, as will WWOOFers. This is not a foolproof system as members can lock in only good feedback and delete bad feedback, but they cannot alter the star rating, so it should become obvious if someone has one star and no supporting comments that something is not right.
